Answer: The American Society of Women Accountants is a professional organization whose purpose is to advance the interest of women in all fields of accounting and finance.
- Question: When was the society founded?
Answer: The Society was founded in 1938.
- Question: How many chapters and members are in the ASWA?
Answer: The Society includes more than 100 chapters throughout the United States with approximately 4,000 members.
- Question: Are only women allowed to be members?
Answer: No. Membership has been open to men since 1974.
- Question: Do I have to join both the National and local chapters?
Answer: If you do not live within 50 miles of an ASWA local chapter, you are encouraged to apply as a "member-at-large" with only national dues. A list of chapters can be found by state on the national website.
- Question: How much are the dues?
Answer: Regular/Affiliate - National dues are $116. Student/Asssociate - National dues are $37. All classes of membership at OKC are $36 per year. A $25 national fee is also assessed for all NEW and REAPPLYING Regular and Affiliate memberships.
- Question: How do I get more involved?
Answer: Contact a local or national board member for more information on getting involved with board/meeting functions or conferences.
